A traditional looking mid sized jewelry box. I envisioned this style after watching on older episode of the New Yankee Workshop. Ive been wanting to do more projects like this for a while and combined some techniques Ive been interested in doing. I did the drawer fronts and the back by dying quilted maple with black dye. I then removed most of the dye by sanding it away leaving only what penetrated the quilted maple the deepest. Then I dyed them blue creating the unique coloring effect. This kind of dyeing seems to work best with quilted maple and i got the idea from luthiers and looking at the dramatic coloring on electric guitars. The rest of the box is dyed black. Ive made a colonial style box with modern color and the results are amazing. I used faux diamond drawer pulls adding another unique effect. The box measures 12 and a half inches wide x 8 and 3 quarter inches tall x 5 and a half inches deep. The drawers are flocked with black fibers and I finished the box in gloss lacquer and wet sanded to perfection. Perfect for jewelry or trinkets this box would make a great addition to a desk or side table.
